This was reported by the spokesperson of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortytsia" Viktor Trehubov during a telethon on Monday, January 27.
As Trehubov pointed out, Ukrainian defenders are currently holding some positions closer to the outskirts of Velyka Novosilka. The occupiers have taken significant control of the city. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back the enemy to prevent further advancement.
"To avoid encirclement of Ukrainian forces in the southern part of the settlement, they were withdrawn from there. Ukrainian forces maintain some positions within the settlement, but closer to the outskirts. Any other actions could lead to their encirclement and unnecessary losses among Ukrainian defenders," — the spokesperson stated.
Trehubov also mentioned that the situation in the Pokrovsk direction remains challenging. He added that nearly half of all combat encounters occur in this sector of the front.
It is worth noting that reports about the Russians advancing in the settlement of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region have also come from the press service of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade. They highlighted that the enemy attempted to block the strongholds of Ukrainian fighters.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has appointed the head of the Joint Operational Command "Khortytsia." General-Major Mikhail Drapatiy has taken this position. This move aims to strengthen the command staff of the troops in the most intense areas.
