This is reported by the agency Bloomberg.
Yoon Suk Yeol, while facing opposition in early December 2024, unsuccessfully attempted to declare martial law in South Korea, leading to parliament's impeachment of him and accusations of attempting a coup.
According to the agency, the corruption investigation agency for high-ranking officials sought to detain Yoon after the president repeatedly ignored summons for questioning. Investigators abandoned their initial attempt to arrest him on January 3 after nearly six hours of standoff due to resistance from Yoon's security detail.
Yoon's arrest marks a historic first in the country, as it is the first time a president has been taken into custody. Investigators can now hold the president for 48 hours and are likely to question him at their office in Gwacheon, near Seoul.
Recall that ten days ago, thousands of people gathered for a rally in Seoul to express their views "for" and "against" the arrest of the impeached South Korean president. Recently, there was an attempt to arrest him, but his security personnel prevented it.
Earlier, South Korean media reported on the number of casualties in North Korea in the Kursk region. As of January 13, approximately 300 North Korean soldiers have died.
