A fatal accident occurred at a checkpoint in the Odessa region, resulting in the death of a border guard.
A fatal traffic accident occurred on December 2 at a checkpoint in the Odessa region. As a result of the accident, a border guard lost his life.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Odessa region police.
The accident took place around 6:00 PM on December 2 in the Odessa district. Law enforcement officials noted that a 66-year-old driver of a VAZ vehicle failed to respond to speed limit signs before the checkpoint. The man struck two border guards who were on duty at the checkpoint.
One of the State Border Guard Service officers died. The other border guard sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
The police tested the driver for alcohol intoxication. At the time of the accident, he was sober. The man has been detained.
Investigators from the Odessa region police have initiated a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

One of the most high-profile cases was the accident that occurred on May 26, 2023, near a checkpoint in Kyiv. Judge Alexei Tandyr of the Makaryv District Court hit 23-year-old National Guard soldier Vadim Bondarenko. The soldier died on the spot from the injuries sustained.
