The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the injury of Stepan Bilchenko, an employee of Lviv University. A criminal case has already been opened.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the police of the Zhytomyr region.
"The man was found by drivers on the roadway on the outskirts of Zhytomyr city on February 7 at around 18:00 and they reported it to the police," the agency stated.
It was revealed that a forensic investigative team from the Zhytomyr district police department and emergency medical personnel were working at the scene.
"Doctors transported the injured man to the hospital's intensive care unit, where he was diagnosed with severe head injuries. The man did not explain to the doctors how he was injured," police said.
However, during initial communication with the police, he denied the involvement of any other individuals, which was recorded on the patrol officers' body cameras.
"Currently, the victim is in the hospital, and medical staff assess his condition as stable. During the initial investigative actions, it was established that the victim is a 27-year-old resident of Lviv region and a soldier from one of the military units," the law enforcement officials noted.
According to colleagues, the man disappeared during the movement of personnel from the unit where he received equipment that day to the training center.
"The man was in the back of a vehicle, and during the vehicle's movement, he jumped out. It is likely that he sustained the mentioned injuries during his escape," the police confirmed.
Currently, investigators from the Zhytomyr district police department are establishing all circumstances of the incident and the mechanism of how the injuries were sustained as part of the opened criminal case under Part 1 of Article 128 (Careless severe or moderate bodily injury) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Previously, there were claims on the internet about the alleged kidnapping and beating of Stepan Bilchenko, an employee of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The military enlistment office responded to the incident.
The military registration office stated that the man was not registered for military service and did not have the right to deferment as he worked as a laboratory assistant.
According to representatives of the military enlistment office, the man allegedly admitted that he planned to go to the training center, and there are materials confirming this. After undergoing a military medical commission, he was taken to the military unit.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, Bilchenko jumped out of the vehicle while on the way from the unit to the training center, resulting in his injuries.
