The Security Service of Ukraine has successfully disrupted plans for a large-scale sabotage organized by the FSB in the Kirovohrad region. During the special operation, a Russian agent was apprehended while attempting to ignite a substation that supplies electricity to a military airfield and other strategic facilities in the area.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the SBU.

The detainee is a 21-year-old local resident who was recruited remotely by the FSB in August 2024. The occupiers took notice of him due to pro-Kremlin comments he made on Telegram channels.

In the initial phase, the recruited agent carried out "verification" tasks: he collected information about the status of energy facilities, the locations of military hospitals, and the buildings of territorial recruitment centers. He transmitted this data to his Russian handlers via messengers in the form of texts and markings on Google Maps.

Later, the agent received a new assignment - to set fire to a key substation in the region using a flammable mixture and to record the fire on video. For successfully carrying out this act of sabotage, he was promised a monetary reward of 200,000 Russian rubles (75,000 hryvnias, - ed.).

Employees of the SBU had preemptively exposed the agent, documented his activities, and caught him "in the act" while he was preparing for the sabotage. Simultaneously, measures were taken to protect other strategic facilities that were within the interest zone of the perpetrator.

A phone with chats through which he communicated with the FSB was seized from the detainee. He has been informed of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason under martial law).

The perpetrator is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
