On the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian Federation's army has suffered irretrievable losses of 7,000 personnel and a total of 15,000 including injured and missing in action.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this information was shared by the spokesperson of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortytsia," Viktor Trehubov, during a national telethon.
According to him, the Pokrovsk direction remains the most active, with 24 enemy assaults occurring in the past 24 hours. The Russians are attacking to the south and southwest of the city.
"In the Toretsk direction - nine attacks near Toretsk, Dolievka, and Shcherbinovka, urban combat in Toretsk itself. In the Kramatorsk direction - three clashes near Chasovyi Yar and Stupochky. In the Siversk direction - nine attacks in the area of Spirne, Siversk, and Verkhnokamenske," Trehubov reported.
The spokesperson clarified that, according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, in the Pokrovsk direction, the Russians have lost 7,000 personnel irretrievably and a total of 15,000 overall, including the injured and missing.
"During the entire Second Chechen War, the Russians recorded 6,000 fatalities. So, under Pokrovsk alone in January, the Russians have suffered more losses than during the entire Second Chechen War," he stated.
Trehubov mentioned that currently, the Russians are deploying all their forces and reserves in attempts to encircle the city. In particular, if they manage to cut off the routes leading into the city, at least from the west and southwest, it could indicate success for the occupiers. However, they are currently failing, as the Russians are losing a significant amount of personnel and equipment while trying to cling to small settlements southwest of Pokrovsk.
In recent months, Pokrovsk has become a primary target for the Russians, as the occupiers are trying to break through the defenses there. This area is one of the most challenging segments of the front.
Recently, Trehubov reported that the Russian occupiers have changed their tactics for advancing on Pokrovsk. Now, instead of attacking the city head-on, they are attempting to encircle it.
As of early January, it was reported that around 7,300 civilians remained in Pokrovsk.
In recent days, Ukrainian military forces repelled a large-scale enemy assault in the Pokrovsk direction.
