Not the First Incident

At the end of November, it was revealed that the undersea data transmission cable C-Lion1, running through the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany, had been severed. This interruption disrupted telecommunications between the countries.

At that time, Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the damage could have been intentional.

One of the suspects was a Chinese cargo ship, Yi Peng 3, operated by a Russian captain. Authorities noted the vessel's unusual route and stopped it for inspection by the Danish Navy. It is known that the ship departed from the Russian Baltic port of Ust-Luga on November 15, while the cable breaks were reported on November 18.

The operator of the C-Lion1 cable announced the commencement of repairs, which are expected to take 5 to 15 days. The cable, which spans 1,173 km and has been operational since 2016, provides direct communication between Finland and Central Europe.

Later, it was reported that damages to a cable between Lithuania and Sweden had been discovered in the Baltic Sea.
