The Pechersk District Court has suspended Alexander Markushin from his position as the mayor of Irpin as part of a criminal investigation.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Telegram channel "Irpin City Community - News."
Markushin, for his part, confirmed this information on his Facebook page. He stated, "This is no longer just a personal attack on me - it's a repression of local self-government that is openly and shamelessly gaining momentum right before our eyes," and added that during the hearing, the judge "did not listen to either the lawyers, who literally dismantled all the accusations, or even the prosecutor."
The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) suspects Markushin of committing a criminal offense under part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - the organization of illegal transportation of persons across the state border.
According to the details of the case, Markushin crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border on August 24, 2022, and returned to Ukraine on the 30th of the same month. The legal basis for his departure, as reported by the Telegram channel, could have been a foreign business trip, but at that time he was not officially on one. During that period, Markushin was on an official vacation, and his duties were performed by the first deputy mayor.
The mayor claims that he left after receiving permission from the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (OVA), returning with drones for the front.
In May 2024, searches were conducted at the Irpin City Council and at Markushin's residence.
