Latvia has transferred 612 confiscated vehicles from drunk drivers to Ukraine. The total aid amounts to approximately 2.25 million euros.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Delfi.
Recall that at the beginning of February this year, the Saeima of Latvia unanimously adopted urgent amendments to the Law on Support for the Ukrainian Civil Population. These amendments enabled the transfer of vehicles that had come into the possession of the Latvian state to Ukraine.
The list included vehicles that were confiscated from drivers caught operating under the influence of alcohol.
Since the aforementioned changes to the law came into effect, the government has made several decisions regarding the transfer of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.
It was previously reported that Latvia had already sent vehicles to Ukraine that were confiscated from drivers caught driving under the influence. At that time, Riga transferred more than 270 such vehicles, with a total estimated value of nearly 1 million euros as of mid-December 2023.
