Влияние Курской операции на ситуацию в Сумской области: комментарий от ОВА.

The Ukrainian military conducted an offensive operation in the Kursk region. This is why there was an increase in shelling in the border areas of the Sumy region at that time.

About this, the head of the Sumy regional military administration, Vladimir Artyukh, mentioned in an interview.

According to him, the number of shellings from Russia has increased in those areas through which Ukrainian fighters entered the Kursk region.

"Where our troops entered the territory of the Kursk region, the number of shellings increased. However, the number of artillery systems, machine guns, and small arms decreased because the enemy was pushed back 20-30 km from the border," Artyukh explained.

He also noted that there has been a significant increase in airstrikes lately—30-40 launches of guided bombs per day.

"If last year there were isolated cases, now this occurs systematically. We are recording strikes on our critical infrastructure facilities and populated areas—private homes or apartment buildings," the head of the OVA responded.

In his opinion, the aim of such shelling is to demoralize the population and force them to leave the areas where they live.

"Moreover, they aim to create conditions by destroying life-support systems—energy systems, water supply, mobile communication—under which it would be difficult for the population to remain here," he emphasized.

Kursk Operation

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue active operations in the border areas, particularly in the Kursk region of Russia. The operation aimed to weaken the enemy's logistical capabilities, destroy military infrastructure objects, and compel Russia to redeploy its resources from the front to protect its own territories.

It is also worth noting that since the beginning of summer, Russia has intensified its shelling of the Sumy region. As a result, it was decided to carry out mandatory evacuation of local residents in several populated areas.

In particular, according to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko, 183 populated areas in the Sumy region are prioritized for evacuation.
