A traitor has been apprehended in Khmelnytskyi, who was planning a terrorist act near Defense Forces units on behalf of the Russian Federation's intelligence services.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

What happened

The traitor received the corresponding assignment from a curator in Russia at the beginning of this year. Among the enemy's priority targets were:

  • backup command posts;
  • permanent deployment locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the National Guard of Ukraine.

To find a location for placing explosives, the detained individual surveyed the area and recorded geolocations with the highest concentration of Ukrainian military personnel.

"In case such objects were discovered, the individual studied the perimeter for 'convenient' spots to plant an improvised explosive device (IED). Subsequently, the agent transmitted the relevant coordinates to the curator in Russia for 'approval' to later receive instructions on crafting the IED with a remote activation mechanism via phone," the SBU adds.

The traitor was captured while conducting reconnaissance near a military facility. During the search, a mobile phone was seized, which contained an anonymous chat where he communicated with Russian intelligence services.

The enemy agent turned out to be a 32-year-old drug addict from the regional center. He came to the enemy's attention when he sought income for a "dose" via Telegram.

What consequences await

The detained individual has been notified of suspicion on two counts - treason committed under martial law and the dissemination of information regarding the movement, actions, or location of the AFU.

He faces life imprisonment.

Recall that RBK-Ukraine reported that an agent network of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) was uncovered in the Kharkiv region. The criminals, under the guise of volunteering, were correcting strikes in the area.
