What Preceded This

On Sunday, February 9, the tanker Koala suffered a mishap at the Russian port of "Ust-Luga" in the Leningrad region. According to Russian media, explosions occurred on the tanker, after which it began to sink.

There were 24 crew members on board the tanker, including four Russians, eight citizens of Georgia, and 12 from Indonesia. The crew was able to evacuate, but the water flooded the engine room, causing the vessel to run aground.

The Russians have set up boom barriers around the tanker and claim that no leaks of oil products have been detected.
