The Ukrainian military successfully shot down a guided aerial bomb in Zaporizhzhia. Recently, Russians have frequently attacked the city using this type of weapon.
This is not the first instance of destroying such an aerial strike asset. In a comment to the publication, the head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, explained.
He noted that guided aerial bombs come in various types, each with different warheads. The Russians deploy these bombs from tactical aviation aircraft without entering the range of our air defense systems, meaning they launch these bombs from a distance.
However, the Air Force employs various methods to counter the tactical aviation using guided aerial bombs (GAB).
"Countering this threat requires a comprehensive approach — utilizing both ground-based air defense systems and air components to push the carriers of these GABs as far away as possible," Ihnat stated.
The Air Force did not specify how they managed to hit the aerial bomb that was shot down over Zaporizhzhia yesterday. They reminded that throughout 2024, the enemy has used 39,950 guided aerial bombs of various types against Ukraine.
"Telegraph" personally asked Yuriy Ihnat where such GABs are shot down and what weapons are used. He refrained from specifying the locations of the weapon's application against GABs but agreed that this should come as a surprise to the enemy.
It is worth noting that prior to this, information circulated on social media that during a hostile airstrike on Zaporizhzhia on the morning of Thursday, February 6, experimental weapons were used against a Russian bomb.
The Russian army actively employs guided aerial bombs. Not only military personnel on the front lines suffer from them, but also civilians in cities that they reach. Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk region, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk experience the power of these airstrikes daily. Russia struck a high-rise building in Kharkiv with GABs, hitting the city center — at least 25 people were injured. In Zaporizhzhia, the attack resulted in the deaths of at least 9 individuals — "it hit" near the cancer center.
Earlier, "Telegraph" reported on why Russia reduced the number of shellings.
