Russia is demanding elections with a singular aim: to lift the state of emergency, demobilize the Ukrainian army, and open the borders. Then, the Russians will initiate a new offensive, justifying it by claiming violations of the ceasefire by Ukraine.

Without security guarantees, there is a risk that we may not live to see the moment when we can cast our ballots in the election.

Therefore, our task is to secure real safety guarantees for the country before, not after. After all, this concerns the future not only of Ukraine but of all Europe.
