Trump's trade war: Canada and Mexico will be exempt from tariffs, while the U.S. prepares for a major push against China.

In recent days, Trump has repeatedly stated that he will impose punitive tariffs on 27 member countries of the European Union.
Торговая война Трампа: Канада и Мексика освобождены от пошлин, в то время как США готовятся к активным действиям против Китая.

On Monday, President Trump postponed the introduction of planned tariffs on Canada and Mexico for 30 days after securing concessions from both countries to curb the flow of drugs and migrants into the United States. This allowed for a temporary delay in the trade war.

Imports from Mexico, China, and Canada account for over a third of the products brought into the U.S., totaling more than $1 trillion in goods annually. This is reported by The New York Times.

"Canada and Mexico's decisions to agree to Mr. Trump's demands are likely to embolden the president, who has already indicated that he views tariffs as a means of pressuring both adversaries and allies,” the article states.

At the same time, a 10 percent tariff is still set to take effect for China on Tuesday morning. Trump stated that he would likely speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping within the next 24 hours regarding various contentious issues and warned that the 10 percent tariff he plans to impose is merely a "first shot."

"If we cannot make a deal with China, the tariffs will be very, very substantial,” Trump said.

China Responds to the U.S.

According to Reuters, China is imposing 15% tariffs on imports of coal and liquefied natural gas from the U.S., as well as 10% tariffs on imports of oil and other American goods, including cars and agricultural machinery.

Salvador's Proposal

While some countries are on the brink of a trade war, El Salvador is attempting to make concessions to the U.S.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that El Salvador has offered to accept deported criminals from the United States arriving from anywhere in the world. This includes American citizens, according to Bloomberg.

"(President Nayib Bukele - ed.) has agreed to the most unprecedented and unusual immigration agreement in the world, as a sign of extraordinary friendship to our country, knowing about the problems we face in the U.S. More details will be provided later,” Rubio said.

It is noted that Trump is seeking agreements with Latin American countries to accept individuals deported from the U.S. as part of the new administration's deportation campaign.

Europe May Be Next

The New York Times writes that Trump's threats to impose tariffs on goods imported from the European Union are part of a strategy to impose the harshest sanctions on America's closest allies.

In recent days, Trump has repeatedly stated that he will impose punitive tariffs on the 27 member states of the European Union.

It should be noted that in the last two weeks, a staggering number of executive orders and policy changes related to international trade, aid, and agreements have emerged from the White House. For instance, on February 1, Trump ordered the imposition of a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on goods from China starting Tuesday. Economists believe that this could provoke a trade war.

Recall that earlier "The Telegraph" reported that during the election campaign, Trump claimed he would use tariffs to increase revenue, reduce America's trade deficit, and bring industry back to the country. He promised to impose tariffs of 10 to 20% on all imported goods, as well as set tariffs as high as 60% for China. After winning the election in November, he also threatened to impose a 25 percent tax on goods from Canada and Mexico – the two largest trading partners of the U.S..
