Scholz expressed his confidence in retaining his position in an interview with Tagesschau.
The current Chancellor of Germany is hoping to attract the votes of citizens who have not yet made up their minds about candidates, and according to polls, there are quite a few of them. Scholz believes that these individuals may choose him as their candidate before the voting takes place.
Scholz himself leads the Social Democratic Party. He is convinced that many citizens of Germany will cast both of their votes for his party to ensure it has enough mandates to continue the government under his leadership.
However, according to sociological data, the CDU/CSU party currently holds the leading position and is expected to secure the most mandates. In second place is the right-wing radical "Alternative for Germany" with 20%. Scholz's Social Democratic Party and the Greens led by Baerbock have 16% and 14% support, respectively.
If Scholz loses, his position could be taken by the leader of the "Christian Democrats," Friedrich Merz. He has been a strong supporter of Ukraine from the very beginning, visited Irpin after its liberation, and consistently criticizes Scholz for refusing to provide Ukraine with more military aid, including long-range Taurus missiles.
Earlier, we reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. They agreed on a position regarding the end of the war and the provision of security guarantees to our state.
Let us remind you that Scholz confirmed that Ukraine will become a member of the EU. He added that support for Kyiv from the US and Europe will not diminish and will continue in the future.
