The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is conducting counterintelligence operations in Sumy, during which citizen checks and vehicle inspections may take place.
This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing "Suspilne".
According to the spokesperson for the SBU in the Sumy region, Olesya Raputa, the counterintelligence activities are being carried out in the city to prevent and neutralize threats from reconnaissance and sabotage activities against Ukraine.
During these counterintelligence operations, the following may occur:
Counterintelligence operations in cities are conducted to identify and neutralize national security threats. The primary goal of these activities is to counteract sabotage and reconnaissance efforts, identify agent networks, prevent terrorist acts, and stop the leakage of confidential information. This also helps to protect strategic sites, critical infrastructure, and government institutions.
Moreover, such actions aim to identify individuals who may collaborate with enemy intelligence services, engage in subversive activities, or spread disinformation. During the process, documents are checked, communications are monitored, suspicious activities are investigated, and searches and detentions may be conducted if evidence of threatening actions is found.
For instance, in mid-January, SBU conducted counterintelligence operations in the Pechersk district of Kyiv.
