A accountant has been exposed for embezzling 2.3 million hryvnias in payments intended for missing military personnel. Additionally, the head of the financial and economic service of a military unit in the Odessa region has also been implicated.

This information comes from RBK-Ukraine, citing the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).

What Happened

"The accountant falsified documentation for a year by using the bank account number of a friend for the payment of financial support. His supervisor failed to verify the information and signed off on the money transfer documents," the SBI reports.

As a result, the accountant unlawfully acquired 2.3 million hryvnias that were designated for military personnel payments.

What Consequences Await

An indictment has been filed against the accountant in court. He is currently in custody.

Furthermore, the head of the financial and economic service has also been charged due to negligence in his duties under part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
