This was reported by MP Olga Vasylevska-Smahlyuk in a comment to Novyny.LIVE correspondent Halyna Ostapovets.
According to the MP, millions of packages arrive in Ukraine each year, but there are not enough customs officers to assign a unique code to each one.
"We have several million packages a year, and the number of customs officers is completely insufficient to assign a code to each package," she stated.
Vasylevska-Smahlyuk emphasized that the author of the bill, Daniil Hetmanцев, insists that the initiative is aimed at supporting local producers, but the deputies want to receive detailed calculations regarding the financial impact and influence on the customs system.
"Therefore, we need to see the calculations. Will this add to the budget, or will it cause more negativity? The bill has not yet been reviewed by the relevant committee, and its prospects remain uncertain," concluded the MP.
Let us remind you that in January 2025, a bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada, providing for the introduction of a tax on all international packages, regardless of their value. The initiator of the document is the head of the finance committee, Daniil Hetmanцев, with co-authors including MPs Mariyana Bezuha and Maksym Buzhansky.
We also reported that Ukrposhta will deliver packages in a new way starting February 3.
