Ukraine will receive €52 million for the development of its transport infrastructure under an EU program.

Four Ukrainian projects have received funding approval from the EU to enhance the transportation system. The allocated funds will be used for the modernization of railways, border crossing points, and river and air navigation infrastructure.

Four Ukrainian projects under the EU program have received funding approval. This involves 52 million euros for the development of railways, road border crossings, a river information service, and support for air navigation. This was reported by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, as conveyed by UNN.

Magda Kopychynska, the Director General of the European Commission's Directorate for Transport and Mobility, announced the completion of the signing of grant agreements and the corresponding funding approval during her visit to Kyiv and discussions at the international transport forum. During the event, the representative of the European Commission handed over grant agreements to the project beneficiaries – the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," GP "Ukraerorukh," and GP "Ukrvodshlyakh."

The Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba, noted that receiving these grants allows for progress toward integrating Ukraine into the European transport space.

In particular, the following initiatives are being discussed:

"Integration of Ukraine's railway system into the EU transport system. Stage 1." The project involves improving the railway network and developing routes to ensure technological compatibility and increase the capacity of railway infrastructure;

"Organization of transport flows to enhance the capacity of infrastructure, safety, and efficiency of border crossing services on the common road Romania-Moldova-Ukraine at the Galați/Djurdulești/Reni checkpoints." The developed project was created in collaboration with Moldovan and Romanian colleagues. Its implementation will ensure the continuity of movement between the specified border crossings;

"Ukrainian River Information Service on the Danube - UkrRIS on the Danube." The project involves the establishment and implementation of a river information service on the Ukrainian section of the Danube, including its integration into the EuRIS portal and CEERIS of the RIS COMEX project, as well as ensuring an appropriate level of navigation safety and providing harmonized information services to vessels on inland waterways;

"Integrated modernization of the European CNS network." The project's focus is on the restoration of Ukraine's air navigation sector and further modernization of communication, navigation, surveillance, and aeronautical information infrastructure.

Reminder

Ukrzaliznytsia is actively constructing the first European gauge railway in Ukraine between Chop and Uzhhorod. So far, 3.5 km out of the planned 8.3 km have been laid, with work expected to be completed this year.
