The Deputy Head of the Education Department of Lviv and project leader Halyna Pyryn shared insights with Novini.LIVE about how cinema lessons will be conducted in Lviv schools, which classes will have access to these lessons, and the project's objectives.

Cinema Lessons in Lviv

The first cinema lesson focused on the formation of national elites inspired by the films "Dovbush," "The First Code," and "Taste of Freedom."

"The first lesson will be for high school students — those in grades 10-11. The State Cinema provided us with a top list of specific films that we could discuss and create film lists for schools," said the project leader.

The goal of the "Lessons Inspired by Cinema" project is to help students analyze events and actions that change the course of history and to demonstrate that learning can be closely connected to real life, Pyryn adds.

"Watching films allows students to see models of behavior in life stories. This serves as a compelling argument for students, enabling them to observe certain behavior patterns, project them onto themselves or society, and provide a characterization. It's a psychological aspect that fosters the development of critical thinking," the educator adds.

Furthermore, the education department will send prepared lesson plans to schools in the city, which will include excerpts from several films. There will also be practical assignments related to the films, followed by discussions. However, these cinema lessons will not be limited to high school students.

"If the first lesson addresses the issues of national elites in today's context, then we are preparing a second lesson for elementary school students, which will also offer something engaging for observation and analysis," notes the project leader of the "Lessons Inspired by Cinema."

As noted by the Lviv City Council’s Education Department, the implementation of such projects promotes the development of critical thinking, creative abilities, and national consciousness among students, making the educational process more interactive and engaging.
