U.S. President Donald Trump did not place his hand on the Bible while taking the oath of office during the inauguration. First Lady Melania Trump stood beside the president, holding two Bibles, but the 47th president of the United States did not rest his hand on either of them. This was reported by ABC News, as conveyed by UNN.
Details
According to ABC News, Melania Trump held her husband's personal Bible, which was a gift from his mother, and Lincoln's Bible, which President Abraham Lincoln used when he took the oath in 1861. U.S. President Donald Trump did not place his hand on the Bible. Instead, he raised his right hand while taking the oath before Chief Justice John Roberts.
It is noted that there are no legal requirements for the president to place a hand on the Bible.
However, it is further stated that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
ABC News also reminded that during his first inauguration on January 20, 2017, Trump placed his right hand on two Bibles held by the First Lady when the judge administered the oath as the 45th president.
